Kristallnacht - The Night of Broken Glass
I wanted to commemorate the fact that today is the 70th anniversary of Kristallnacht, which is generally translated “The Night of Broken Glass.”
On November 9-10, 1938 in Germany, the Nazis killed almost 100 Jews and rounded up as many as 30,000 Jews who were sent to concentration camps. They also destroyed many synagogues and private residences, which is what the “broken glass” in the name is in reference to.
Kristallnacht is often pointed to in historical materials as the beginning of the holocaust.
It’s a tragic, tragic date in history. If it’s true what they say, that if you forget history you are doomed to repeat it, then we should never forget Kristallnacht.
