Cheboygan County Fair Queen
Don’t ask me how I came across this as I was researching something for a client…sometimes click trails are just extremely convoluted.
But I did. I came across an article in the Cheboygan News about the Cheboygan County Fair Queen. And it BLEW. ME. THE. F*#&$. AWAY!
So, here’s the deal. Six chicks competed for the apparently illustrious title of Cheboygan County Fair Queen in Cheboygan, Michigan last Sunday. Here are the four that placed:
OK, so, fair enough…I live in Los Angeles, not Michigan, so maybe I have a skewed sense of physical beauty. Maybe there’s just not a huge pool of talent in good ole Cheboygan? Right? Am I right?
WRONG!
This is one of the two girls that DID NOT MAKE THE TOP FOUR. Out of SIX!
I’m sorry, but in what universe does that girl not beat those four other girls by a galactic effing MILE in a beauty competition???
Is Cheboygan, like, BIZARRO world or something?
Hello, Newman.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PS – Before anyone starts to berate me for being mean to the sensitive little kiddies, let’s remember that these girls entered themselves, of their own free will, into a competition where they *asked* people to evaluate, judge, and rank them on their physical attributes. I’m merely taking them up on that request!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PPS – Apparently someone from this town is spreading this post like wildfire. Opinions are a mixed bag, from those that are “appauled” that I somehow got the idea that the concept of “pagent” somehow relates to beauty (go figure), to those who feel I’ve merely given voice to opinions secretly held by many. Who would have thought this would have become such a hot-button issue, like, five months after the fact??
At any rate, apparently (according to a couple of commenters), this “pagent” is all about inner beauty, and character, and charity work, and whatnot…which apparently is best judged in ballgowns and tiaras. My mistake!

I find her views hilarious, and a beauty pagent does mean BEAUTY! Inside and out!

The fact is that this pagent is politicaly motivated. More then likely the pretty girl didnt come from a well to do family in the community or parents arent suckasses in the town of Cheboygan. It is well known in Cheboygan that this pagent is fixed and very pregidist to accomidate certain people pretty talented or not. Why adults pull these kinds of lies with are children is sick and they need help. I’m sure these young ladies worked hard and are very proud. But the real talent wont compete in this competition. Because of the history of the pagent. like i said the winners are selected by the status of the parents and how much money the bring to the pagent. Basically a sideshow in Cheboygan very common with most events here.

The hilarious thing is…I never even said those other girls weren’t pretty. If you do a careful read of the post, I NEVER SAY THAT.
Sure, that’s the implication. But the only reason that’s clear to everyone is that YOU ARE ALL THINKING IT TOO!
So, before you jump on me about what I imply, maybe search your own mind about how you REALIZED that’s where I was going.

Oh Melanie, how dare you write an opinion piece on your blog and go so far as to assume that the pageant is a beauty pageant when the girls are wearing tiaras and fancy dresses. Not to mention when the definition of a pageant is: pag·eant/ˈpajənt/
Noun:
1. A public entertainment consisting of a procession of people in costumes, or an outdoor performance of a historical scene.
2. A beauty contest.
Girl, I stand by your opinions and I am not one of those 5’11 105 lb LA girls referenced but do possess the reading comprehension skills to read and use a dictionary and look up the definition of a pageant. Besides we all know inner beauty is just for ugly people!

Trust me, you have captured the thoughts and feelings of more people that live here than are willing to admit it! LOL

I said the same exact thing and I was berated for it! I do believe Maranda should have gotten the title, not those ” others”. Clearly they had some help from from the “populars” of that town ( I used to live there).

You’re just an idiot. Sorry. You asked to be judged to

So first of all I want to say I’m sure everyone one of the contestants did a fabulous job. With that said I am appauled that you would post this on the basis that you did. Anyone with reading comprehension skills is going to be able to tell you that the word PAGENT doesn’t go one and one with BEAUTY there are pagents for other reason. Better reason if I must add. This was a fair queen pagent where they are judged on their community relations, speaking skills, talent, and inner values, not on their phsyical attributes. So before you go add your two cents look not only at one word but understand the title.

Alright first off, The Miss Cheboygan County Pageant is NOT a beauty pageant. All these young ladies are judged on their inner beauty and inner attributes that make them amazing people. They were judged on whom the judges felt would be a great representation of our county and the people that live in it. In your blog you said that these girls wished to be put out there to be judged on their physical attributes which is not the case here. Not everyone, little miss Cali, has to be five foot eleven and weigh a a hundred and five pounds to be beautiful. We are real people here and these young women make a great representation of Cheboygan County, not becasue they are your “straight lined” interpreted vision of pageant girls, but because they are talented, intellegent, beautiful young women that are striving to make our community a better place. “Beauty” does NOT equal talent!! You haven’t just hurt these girls by posting this you struck a community with your arrogence. We may just be a small town but you have no right to belittle them or our views.
