Top Hip Hop Songs This Week

Why, you wonder, am I writing a post  entitled “Top Hip Hop Songs This Week”?  Yeah, I realize I’m not a DJ or anything. 😀  However, I noticed that a lot of the traffic coming to my blog was from people who were finding posts that I’d written about rap or hip hop songs.   And, since I’m a big proponent of the notion of giving the people what they want…voila!

Now, I don’t think I’m dating myself by admitting that my favorite rap song is a 3 way tie between Playaz Club, My Posse’s on Broadway, and Ditty…oh, wait, I *AM* dating myself?  Wow.  Sucks.  Haha. 😀  But, my point is, that I also enjoy current hip hop trends.  So, without further ado, here we go – a constantly updated list of the 25 Top Hip Hop Songs of the Week.

Why 25, you ask?  Why not the ubiquitous 10, or even 15?  Well, I will tell you.  To use a phrase totally apropos to the genre we are currently celebrating…THAT’S HOW I ROLL! 😀

Say No More, Mon Amour – Full Music Video from Empire Records!

This video was posted on YouTube by a member of the production company that Warner Brothers hired to film the fake “Rex Manning” music video for the song “Say No More, Mon Amour” – cuts of which appear in the movie. The full version has never been seen before.

I only have one thing to say about it. And that’s – “Oh Rexy…You’re So Sexy!”

Here are two really cool and different renditions of the most romantic song of all time, Someone to Fall Back on by the luminous Jason Robert Brown, that I found on YouTube:

Takiyah Wonder Suicide Attempt

Media outlets are reporting that Takiyah Wonder, daughter of musical genius Stevie Wonder, may have attempted to take her own life this past weekend.

Apparently there were issues in her relationship with boyfriend Robert from the group Day 26. She sent the following concerning tweets:

To everyone that screwed me in life, you’ve finally won.
I can’t take it anymore – I’m done.
You won’t have to hear from me again

Sorry to the friends and family that did love me.
I just took something that will have me gone for good.
Finally no more pain

Not good, for sure!

British Singer Marilyn – Gay Affair with Gavin Rossdale Lasted 5 Years Says British Singer Marilyn

Well, it’s an odd love triangle – Marilyn, Gwen Stefani, and Gavin Rossdale. But there you have it. Marilyn has told InTouch Magazine that Rossdale had to deny the affair because of his growing music career, but that Gavin Rossdale is the love of his life.

The affair had been alleged by Boy George in the past, but Rossdale had, indeed, denied it.

Here’s a video of Marilyn:

Scottish Woman Singing – Susan Boyle Impresses Simon and the World!

On Britain’s Got Talent, 47 year old Susan Boyle made giant waves around the world with her rendition of I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables. Demi Moore tweeted that the performance moved her to tears, and it instantly became a YouTube sensation. Simon Cowell supposedly wants to sign Boyle to his record label, and she is now the odds on favorite to win the competition.

Similar things tend to happen when I tweet something. Except not. 😛

Here’s a video of the super talented warbler, and the lyrics to “I Dreamed a Dream” are below.

There was a time when men were kind
When their voices were soft
And their words inviting
There was a time when love was blind
And the world was a song
And the song was exciting
There was a time
Then it all went wrong

I dreamed a dream in time gone by
When hope was high
And life worth living
I dreamed that love would never die
I dreamed that God would be forgiving
Then I was young and unafraid
And dreams were made and used and wasted
There was no ransom to be paid
No song unsung, no wine untasted

But the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder
As they tear your hope apart
And they turn your dream to shame

He slept a summer by my side
He filled my days with endless wonder
He took my childhood in his stride
But he was gone when autumn came

And still I dream he’ll come to me
That we will live the years together
But there are dreams that cannot be
And there are storms we cannot weather

I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I’m living
So different now from what it seemed
Now life has killed the dream I dreamed.

Hot New Music

Those of you that know me know that I am really into the music scene – I go to a ton of concerts, I spend a lot on CDs and merch – I am basically a huge music nerd. 🙂

So, I thought it would be a cool idea to create a post that I keep updated with hot new music – new and cool artists or releases that I am particularly feeling.

It’s not a top ten list, it’s not any kind of structured thing. Just constantly rotating awesome tunes. ENJOY! 😀

Who Sings Big for Me?

If you’ve heard the hot single “Big for Me” on your local radio station, the question that is probably on your mind is this – “Who sings Big for Me? How can I find out more?”

Well, you’re in luck. 🙂 The talented artist who sings Big for Me is Jd Webb, who’s debut CD (The Introduction) comes out on August 25th.

Here’s a video of him performing Big for Me live:

New Christmas Music – Listen to Christmas Music Online!

Get ready, people. I have a truckload of new Christmas music for ya!

Christmas is by far my favorite time of year. I’m a HUGE Christmas nerd. In fact, this is the first in a series of Christmas-themed toplist posts I have planned for this season. Oh, yeah. I’m spreading Holiday Cheer. Whether ya like it or not! 😀

The first in the series of Christmas list posts is this one, new Christmas music. Of course, I’m taking a rather loose view of the term “new.” I’m going to adopt Stephen Merchant‘s definition of “New Music,” which is – “Music you’ve not heard before.” :s)

So, here we go. 😀

Jd Webb – Everything I Need This Christmas
Of course Jd is first! He’s my boy! 😀 Besides that, he’s also come out with the catchiest and most singable Christmas song in the history of ever.
Everything I Need This Christmas by Jd Webb

Barenaked Ladies – Elf’s Lament
It’s a Christmas song. About Organizing. How social justice-y awesome is that? ELVES UNION NOW!

The Weepies – All That I Want
This was the JC Penney commercial Christmas song last year, so you may have heard a snippet of it. I’d be willing to wager you haven’t listened to it as a SONG, though, and it’s really gorgeous.

David Ryan Harris – The Little Drummer Boy
I can’t even talk. It’s David. Just…beautiful, hilarious, touching, moving, amazing…it’ll give you goosebumps. But that was summed up when I said, “It’s David.” 🙂

Winter Song – Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson
I’ll be honest, I’m not the biggest Ingrid fan. Nothing against her, just…meh. But Sarah B? Frickin’ amazing. And the harmonies are really pretty.

Kat Parsons – She’s a Nutcracker
Just hilarious. Watch it. I’m not wrong. 😀

Jd Webb – Mary Did You Know?
OK, I’m gonna start with Jd and end with Jd. Like I said, he’s my boy! 🙂
