I love people who are passionate about their projects, and that definitely describes Caitlin Crosby‘s three year quest to record the footage for the following video, and create it.

Caitlin (along with United States of Tara actress Brie Larson) is the driving force behind LoveYourFlawz.com, a budding movement to promote body image celebration, not just among teenage girls as such pushes often focus on, but along the entire spectrum of age and gender.

This is a subject that is close to her heart, and a theme that can be seen throughout her songwriting – like in another of her popular songs, “Imperfect is the New Perfect.”

Take a look at the video – it’s really great.  Very inspiring!  And while you’re at it – Love Your Flawz!

This is my favorite of the PS22 Chorus videos.  And I don’t even like Coldplay!  In fact, I like the PS22 version of this song quite a bit better than the original.

So, if you’re into music and the internet, or even only one of the two, chances are you’ve heard of Bravo’s new show they’re casting for right now, called Hitmakers.  They’re looking for well-rounded artists, as opposed to American Idol who are looking primarily for singers.  Hitmakers wants people who can also write, produce, play instruments – the whole package.

Well, I was watching some of the audition tapes online, and I think I have found their winner.  Seriously, people.  Why even have a show?

Dorn is the epitome of the phrase “the whole package.”  From his unique fashion styling to his lyrical genius to his wall-o’-guitars, dude has it going on.

I give you….the man, the myth, the legend…..DORN:

I bought my Dad Diane Birch’s debut CD “Bible Belt” for Christmas, which was why I haven’t written about it here sooner. I didn’t want him reading about it and going out and buying it.

I have to say, though – this CD tops my list for most incredible and surprising music of 2009. Birch’s voice is reminiscent of the 1970s songstresses I grew up listening to – she’s like a cross between Carole King and Janis Joplin – and her melodies call up images of Carole King as well, and of Burt Bacharach at his best.

Not only that, but she has the maturity and melodic awareness to realize that using horns throughout her music is a smart choice. It adds depth and layers and brightness to the songs, making some of them remind me of Chicago in their heydey, or of Blood Sweat and Tears.

Being a debut effort from a very young artist, it’s not surprising that the CD is a little uneven, with high points of brilliance (Nothing But a Miracle, Fools, Photograph) and low points of fairly pedestrian offerings (Valentino). However, those flashes of brilliance  cause me to predict that in 30, 40, and even 50 years – Diane Birch will transcend her peers – she won’t be a has-been, she’ll be a legend.

I can’t believe Brittany Murphy is dead. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like she was great or anything – but she was cute, and she seemed nice, if a little ditzy.

A lot of people didn’t know she had a pretty good singing voice, in addition to her acting. Take a look at this video from the 2002 MTV Movie Awards. She sings at 2:30.
